Most memorable game at the Ex was the 10th anniversary home opener. A few of us skipped school to go see the game. Way out in the grandstand, well beyond the outfield wall. Ice cold and not dressed warmly enough. Some Newfies(?) were drinking whisky and offered us some. Then around the 7th inning (not at all sure when actually) everyone started running down onto the field behind the outfield wall, hundreds maybe thousands of people just laughing and running around. Police on horseback(?) and security finally got everyone back in their seats. Pretty sure the Jays lost. Great day though. sounds fun! It was. No one was hurt as far as I know. Just a bunch of people trying to warm up during a boring game they could barely see. The highlights on the news that night weren't impressed with what happened that day. I wonder if that was the final straw in getting Toronto a new stadium a few years later or if the construction plan was already in place?
On a side note, a few years later I was biking around downtown and went to see what the new stadium under construction was looking like. Found a spot that was open and rode right onto the site and right into the stadium and looked down at the concrete of what would be the field. Can't believe there wasn't any security or at least that the site was secured from nosy sightseers.
