Yankees were playing the Chattanooga Lookouts in spring training in 1931. The Lookouts had a 19 year old girl pitcher, Jackie Mitchell, who bragged that she could strike out Babe Ruth on three pitches. And she did, although the 3rd was a called strike. Then the Iron Horse went down swinging on three straight. She walked Tony Lazzeri and was lifted. A couple days later, Kennesaw Landis voided her contract and forbade women from playing. The story also claims that Ruth had the umpire check the ball after strike two because he thought she was doctoring the ball. Sounds like the "Whammer" scene from The Natural.
