I can kind of see that. In reviews that I've read (from a variety of sources), many people often say about both of them that their style seems rather self-indulgent and self-serving. Personally, I can see that trait in so many directors that it isn't something I'd single out for just these two. Being someone who enjoys their movies, it's just so rare that I come across others who know of them or in particular actually enjoy them.
