It seems unlikely that Captain Marvel was green lit because of Shazam!.Yep, they wanted to maintain their trademark on the name, so the released the film. The also wanted to say that they had a female superhero film. Except making the film didn't help them keep the trademark, so long as they used the IP and name in some active form they had the rights to it, along with you know filing for the trademark every so many years, so even if they name made a movie about the character they could have kept the trademark for ages so long as they made comics under the title and kept an active trademark over the name going, the movie doesn't impact this in much of any way.
