I've never heard that. I only know two of his songs, Something Inside So Strong, which makes me want to projectile vomit, and I Got The..., which is tremendous. I'll check it out. I can't find any mention of Labi Siffre ever having recorded Everything I Own. Dunno what kind of brain fart is happening there with me! Sorry about that. I do like the original version of the song by Bread, as well as the Ken Boothe version. Which would explain why I couldn't find it on Youtube! It sounds like the kind of thing he would have recorded, as might Johnny Nash. Strangely enough, at the height of my punk (particularly Stranglers) obsession at the age of 12, I also had a Bread phase, and I still enjoy their original of that song. Speaking of unlikely reggae covers, I also liked Paul Davidson's Midnight Rider very much as a kid, an Allman Brothers song. |
