Yes it was a fix. It was vanquished from the top spot due to public outrage. It had outsold the Rod Stewart song considerably. One print of the chart that week didn't even have the record and band listed in the top ten, it was left blank "In March 2001, the BBC published an article that stated '"God Save the Queen" reached number one in the UK in 1977 despite being banned by the BBC, and marked a defining moment in the punk revolution".
