I’ve found with most of Snyder’s work that I dislike it on an initial viewing, but adjust and eventually enjoy it on subsequent viewings.
Man of Steel is no exception, but it is somewhat painful to watch when it could’ve easily been a very good movie instead of just a good one had Snyder shot it like he did Watchmen or BvS.
Instead we get the shaky, handheld, muted-color visual mimicry of other movies of the time. BvS and Watchmen aren’t exactly colorful spectacles either, but they at least dealt with dark blacks and bright whites with good framing.
