I remember it getting attention for the Henson stuff. Before Stan Winston, I think Henson studios was the leader in animatronics.
I gather the concept of childhood was rather limited in older times--you went from infant to little adult pretty quick. If they could put kids to work in factories, being naked wouldn't make much difference either. Think of that gang of kids that Sherlock Holmes called on for his work--imagine it today--you can't picture a homicide detective using kids for clue-hunting or spy work can you?
