I miss them, too. Some of the stuff in Francona's book about the way the Sox were run is insane. The team said the book wasn't true, but never denied any specific incident or intimation described in the book, to my knowledge. For example, Francona was told market analysis showed the Red Sox needed more of a 'reality TV' aspect and that they needed "to win in a more exciting fashion," with "sex symbols." Just bizarre stuff. Francona's book was a real eye-opener, that's for sure. Though some of it did feel like Tito was still pissed about how things ended, so he decided to air out some dirty laundry. That stuff about tv executives telling the Sox what works for ratings, I got a feeling that probably actually happens with most pro sports teams. Of course they want to win, but good ratings are also a priority as well. The Boston market is big, and I'm sure NESN takes it too far, but I bet that's the case with all markets. As far as Sox ownership goes, it's hard to complain much about John Henry and his group. 4 World Championships will do that for ya. It was tough seeing Francona go, but I do believe his shelf life as a baseball manager in Boston had run it's course. Obviously by 2011, a lot of players had tuned him out. I understand the Sox making that change. Now Don Orsillo on the other hand, that was a TOTAL douchebag move by NESN. I'll never forget the sight of the ENTIRE Red Sox team giving him a standing ovation from the dugout on his last broadcast. The players knew Orsillo had been royally screwed over.
