Tranmere meanwhile, once got a mention on Brookside.
On a sidenote, I actually remember the year Tranmere finished in their highest ever league position, 4th in the second tier, John Aldridge was scoring a tonne of goals for you, the Daily Star were running a fantasy football contest which was easily exploitable if you knew a little about 1st division football, as the players were much, much cheaper than Premier League players yet they could score the same amount of points, I picked up Aldridge and a few other players for a steal and finished in 110th place or something, after spending most the season in the top 3 and top at times, just missing out on big cash prizes as I slid down the table in the final few weeks, I still feel The Daily Star might have rigged it that year as my team was about as close to perfection as I or anyone is likely to ever get. But I was 11 years old at the time, I didn't know who to make a complaint to.
In truth, neither club should be playing non-league next year, just goes to show how shambolic the running of our clubs must be, we have a corrupt owner who is wanted for embezzlement and money laundering charges in Albania.
Here is a short youtube documentary that just went out a few days ago that will break the hearts of any true football fan
I should have been there for them, I'm not superstitious but sometimes I feel my mere presence could have avoided all this.
On a side note, I was in the directors box for Tranmere's first ever game in the first division (second tier) at Prenton Park. I was sat next to a young lady who was sat with Howard Kendall who was trolleyed. Neil Midgeley was the ref and Kendall took the piss out of him the whole game to this young woman. I didn't see him in the lounge afterwards, nor her!!
