I can understand why black people are offended by blackface though. In America gay males are commonly stereotyped as effeminate queens. These stereotypes are passed off as endearing and lovable in media. The tv show Will & Grace is a great example. I detested those vomit-inducing freaks.
But even without blackface, American media still stereotypes the black man as a pimp and a criminal.
I did not like "Will and Grace", either. I wouldn't so much mind the stereotyping, but the show was just so eager to stereotype it's two gay male characters. Practically everything Will and Jack did was like this grotesque check off list to cue the viewer. It was so pandering and when my friends or coworkers brought up the show and hilarious, I'd try to change the subject or duck out.
Not to mention the show was not funny. It was part of that awful trend (early at the time) where all the characters are rude and insulting and loud and completely self-absorbed. I will concede and say that the exception here was Karen, who was characterized wonderfully by Megan Mulally. Karen could be hysterical. But the other three did nothing for me.
