I've come across several tweets by black people saying they don't want time and energy to be spent on censorship when the cause is mainly about stopping police brutality. Of course that they don't represent all black people (in fact, I can't be sure that they're a majority), but it's interesting to see so many points of views. Why should this be an either/or proposition? The racism in police brutality is just one manifestation of racism in society. We should be moving to eliminate all forms of racism. I think the feeling many have been expressing is that they don't want to see people in power making relatively small changes like showing disapproval of use of blackface in tv & films and then expecting everyone to accept those minor changes as proof that they've done their part to fight racism, while not really addressing the much more insidious and harmful manifestations of racism, like police brutality or the hiring and casting practices in Hollywood.
