Yup. In an emergency, that's who you plug in, but carrying 3 is superfluous absent expanded roster limits. Didn't Joe McEwing end up making an emergency appearance at catcher (probably for the Mets, but maybe my Cardinals)? But Baseball Reference doesn't have him playing an inning at catcher. I could have sworn he had. They always referred to him as the “emergency catcher.” |
