Schindlers list was a very good film i think it deserved best picture. but The Age of Innocence should have been nominated, it was a wonderful film the first Scorsesse did for his female audiences...i haven't seen remains of the day but if you say its one of the best period pieces im gonna see it, since im a fan of period pieces. The self-importance of Spielberg's Schindler's List puts me off. I am a big fan of his films and there is much virtue in the film, It just didn't really speak to me or grab me emotionally. I don't know about Scorsese making AOI for female audiences though, that might be reaching a bit. One of the finest period films ever made is HOWARD'S END-92', also a Merchant Ivory production like REMAINS OF THE DAY-93'.
