Well that’s like saying the book isn’t good because it mixes the two and the book, aside from an occasional kid sex, is better than both the movies and the series. It would have made a difference if executed properly. It would have minimized the bad scenes in two or at worst been able to match tone across both movies. Sure, but I am saying that they could have easily made a good sequel and leave Part 1 the way it is. I was actually fixing the problems with Part 2 in my head while watching the movie. The narrative structure of the 2 movies has nothing to do with why I dislike the sequel. of course I agree with that since the source material is good. But the ultimate flaw of the movie is execution which writing would have a part in. But writing isn’t what made the ending horrible, the opening hate crime confusing, and timing off, or the effects bad. The movie was finally off and that’s largely because, unlike the first films overall adherence to the source material, the second one goes off the rails to be more akin to a blockbuster movie. Because they went with a chronological narrative they couldn’t find enough interesting stuff to make it a good stand alone movie where as there would have been enough foreshadowing and comparison.
