47 METERS DOWN PART 2: UNCAGED is as boring as a Halloween pumpkin without a mouth (3 triangles? Big deal!), mostly because it takes place mainly underwater. Yes, the previous installment was also like that, except that the protagonists were trapped in a cage. The viewer knew exactly where they were at all times, and the makers had to rely on dialogue and psychological stress. Here, the main characters explore a dark sunken city. Things are barely visible when they're merely swimming around. When there's danger, the camera movements and the editing make it impossible for the audience to make things out. LISA & KATE in the 1st movie weren't the best-written characters, but I liked them enough to root for them. This sequel has more characters, but I didn't care about a single one of them. I get why there are scenes establishing that MIA & SASHA (the protagonists) don't want to be step-sisters, but why waste screentime on CATHERINE (a girl that goes to the same school)? That wasn't necessary. She's not even a realistic bully. She pushes MIA into a swimming pool, even though she comes off as the queen bee mean girl who only insults without getting her hands dirty. Plus, no reason is given as to why MIA is her target. She doesn't act or dress nerdy. Hell, she's arguably the prettiest student. Shouldn't she be the popular one? Because of all this, it takes around 30 minutes to get the plot moving. You can't do that when the total runtime is 89 minutes. 3/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
