Good essay. I will point out that although Mary Martin's 1960 was indeed the first TV adaptation in color, Martin had already done two TV broadcasts of the play back in the mid-1950s. I thought it unusual the adaptation removed the 'rescue Tiger Lily' story. I felt it made the trip to Never Never Never Land rather brief. One minute the Darlings are there, building a house for Wendy, next its the night where they want to leave. There is also an Americanization of the adaptation, as the children show their loyalties to the US rather than Great Britain. I believe I learned about the silent versions of both Pan and Oz at the same time; c. March 1989 from a trivia book.
