And he was a more serious character. Hammer was "clownish". That was the point. Everything he did came off as cringe and Stark effortlessly upstaged him. That scene where he comes on stage dancing and Pepper just rolls her eyes. Killian was a step up only in that he was if Tony went down the wrong path after he became Iron Man. Hammer is what would happen to Tony if he had nothing that made him Stark besides money. Hammer is a try hard. lol Also Killian was competent, Hammer wasn't, with him it went a little too much of a joke similar to Ragnarok for me where they undercut his character so much it wasn't even remotely believable even for a cbm, like how does his fucking rocket not work that he added to the War Machine armour? he's meant to be a big defence contractor and he cannot even produce a functioning missile? and you could have undercut him another way like instead of it being a super mega missile it's supposed to be this unstoppable missile with the best tracking software around, and Whiplash just hacks the fucking thing in seconds because he's an actual genius like Stark not a wannabe like Hammer, same kind of waawaawaaaaaa moment at Hammer's expense but not so much it makes everything about who he is meant to be unbelievable. It is hilarious how cringe inducing his attempts to be Tony is though, Sam Rockwell was doing some good work being a buffoon I will give them that.
