She's American. She's black (partially).
Jamaica's blacks come from Africa. They were British brought slaves from the continent just like the United States' slaves were.
So why are people saying she's not African-American?
She's not. She's a black lady or a Jamacian/Indian American but she's definitely not African American. Charilize Theron is more African American than she is.
Jamaica is part of North America, but we're just talking about African-United Statesian?
Other than being lighter, my guess is her experience didn't differ from other blacks in the United States. I don't think most racists say "she's alright - - there was a stop between Africa and the US in her family tree".
