It knocks spots off the risibly bad second and because it was written and directed by Blatty himself, many consider it to be the real sequel to the The Exorcist. Having said that, Blatty's vision for the film was very different from what was eventually released as Exorcist III - originally called Legion it didn't contain any exorcisms for a start with one having to be artificially tacked on at the end by the studio so they could put the word Exorcist in the title, but despite this, it does have it's moments as an effective chiller. Film critic Mark Kermode, who's a fan, considers the nurse in the corridor scene to be the best jump scare in the history of cinema.
