Just realized theres a sizeable collection on Prime Video, so i plan on seeing a bunch that I haven't before...
Stagecoach...Seriously just a great movie. It's got a fantastic ensemble that make the random conversations equally as interesting as being chased by rifle wielding Apaches. It's said this is where Wayne got his promotion to A List and its easy to see why. Claire Trevor was also very beautiful as Dallas, Waynes love interest and a prostitute (or at least i think thats why everyone hated her). It really rounds out several small storylines nicely including the drunken doctor kind of finding himself and the barrier between the 'high' class passengers and the 'low' class passengers being brought down over the course of the film. Really really great movie.
Big Jake...I liked this one a lot. As always John Wayne has his clever one liners that are sprinkled throughout the film. His character in this is also larger than life and seemingly everyone has heard of him and fears him, even though they all thought he was dead. I liked that. Fains Gang (the bad guys) were colorful enough. A lot blended into the background but a few like Goodfellow and Breed stand out a lot. Didn't care for the motorcycle stuff tho. Not huge on motor vehicles and westerns colliding to that degree. Just never feels right to me. Kinda cool to see a few of Waynes actual sons play his fictional sons/grandsons in this one. James even emulated his walk.
Already Seen... The Searchers Stagecoach El Dorado The War Wagon Red River Angel and the Badman The Comancheros The Man who Shot Liberty Valance The Sons of Katie Elder Rio Bravo True Grit The Alamo Big Jake Hondo Sands of Iwo Jima
