I think the charm of Ruby Keeler is that she gets you to root for her, as you would for a kid struggling to finish a routine in a grade school dance recital. She is graceful but she thumps when she dances. And her voice is very insecure.
Still . She came to Broadway in her sixties, after 30 years of retirement, and outdanced all the gypsies on the stage in NO NO NANETTE. She deserves a lot of credit.
