Wool bathing attire.
I realize (and can appreciate) that modesty was king at the turn of the last century, but those couldn't have been comfortable, especially being made out of wool (the stockings anyways). I can't even fathom people in the South wearing those to the beach. I guess you could have put up with in the NE with a more mild summer, but goodness.
