I had parakeets while growing up. They were fun, but not LOUD and ANNOYING like a full-fledged parrot. One of my cousins had a parrot, but it was neurotic. It kept pulling out it's feathers and couldn't fly. When I was a kid, a friend had a macaw in their basement. I could hear it's brawk from upstairs and if I was near the entrance, I'd always flinch. When I'd go in the basement, it'd be worried it would brawk at any second. The thing was inside a cage as big as a person and as wide, I used to wonder if that was enough space. I was divided if I should feel sorry for it. I feel the same way about the bigger birds - whether they have enough area to get around. We let the parakeet fly around the house. They were fine. But the bigger birds, unless you have a mansion, I don't think it's enough room. In general, I have issues with "pets" kept in confined spaces. People getting large dogs who live in little apartments; keeping rodents in those little cages. Not that I'm a fan of having a rodent for a pet anyway.
