Woody allen films are full of films within films Hannah and her sisters - DUCK SOUP as the antidote for the craziness of life Annie Hall- the Sorrow and the pity and yes, there is a very short clip Purple rose of Cairo- TOP HAT, and of course The imaginary film Purple Rose of Cairo The Mirror Crack’d - starring Angela Lansbury as Miss Marple has an imaginary fwaf , Murder at Midnight a very good imitation of a British film of the 30’s Radio Days- Aunt Béa took Joe the Radio city to see Philadelphia Story Crimes and Misdemeanors- THIS GUN FOR HIRE, FRANCIS, HAPPY GO LUCKY, Mr And Mrs Smith, The Last Gangster Manhattan murder mystery - Double Indemnity, Lady From Shanghai, I thought tgere was a scene from a Bob Hope comedy.Woody talks about it a lot and I realized for the first time how much of Woody’s film style comes from Hope. sorry if this is a repeat of anything higher in the thread. Play it Again, Sam, written by Woody Allen, is a salute to Humphrey Bogart's film persona and the film Casablanca. The film begins with Allen's character watching the end of that Bogart film in a revival house, obviously for the umpteenth time as he knows all the lines, and wishing he could emulate Bogart. Woody Allen stated in an interview a few years later that he was a great admirer of Bob Hope and "stole" a lot from the comedian. This would be reflected in a great sketch from SCTV, "Play it Again, Bob," in which Rick Moranis as Allen watches a Bob Hope movie (supposedly I'll Take Sweden, but not shown), then meets his idol, Hope (Dave Matthews). So a movie-within-a-movie parody of a movie-within-a-movie.
