Christopher George brings some life to it, but the plot is indeed quite stupid "Jaws with claws." They copied a lot from Spielberg's hit without much understanding of what made it a good movie, like politicidal already pointed out. It's a bit boring while remaining perfectly watchable and okayish, at least for fans of 70s animal attack movies.
The ending is indeed quite hilarious.
