Is emotional depth weak in your opinion? People like you seem to live in a fantasy world where men have no weakness or fragility. I am a man and I suffer emotionally all the time, so I am going to like watching characters I can relate to in that way. What you call wimpy I call realistic and interesting. Bruce Wayne has been a troubled character in every Batman movie. There's a difference between emotional and dysfunctional. Batman and other characters get increasingly dysfunctional. Plus it is still supposed to be a fantasy adventure so how much realism do you want? AA meetings?
I like a good deal of character realism even in my fantasy films. AA meetings? If the character is an alcoholic and the movie is trying to be more realistic, then yes. Batman isn't James Bond and Bruce Wayne has not become more dysfunctional since 1989. He literally sits in his house with his butler and no family or life, obsessed with criminals and just waiting for the Bat signal to give meaning to his existence in Tim Burton's versions. He is a lonely fucked up individual.
