To be sure, although there have been tv musicals in the past- BRIGADOON (1966) with Robert Goulet and ANNIE GET YOUR GUN (1957) with Mary Martin for instance- I think this TV era began with GYPSY (1993) with Bette Midler, then BYE BYE BIRDIE (1995) with Jason Alexander Vanessa Williams and Tyne Daly. Disney started their batch with RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN’S CINDERELLA (1997) with Brandi and Whitney Huston. I remember back in the mid 1990s there was talks to adapt MAME, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, and YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN.
