Horrid!
Walked out just after an hour into it. The shakey cam was making me feel nauseous, the characters were whiny douchbags who I didn't give a rats about, and random scenes showing how these soldiers in Afghanistan were living and interacting in-between occasional bouts of gunfire didn't seem to make much cohesive sense overall. It appeared to want to give the impression of being some sort of surreal and virtuous take on the camaraderie of the soldiers and that one would already knows and understand the mentality of this military milieu, yet there is no genuine insight or development into who they really are. The best it could do, was subtitle the names of each of the main characters at the start as they appeared, as though the viewer would remember them when they all look the same in somber lighting and under helmets.
While biased US right-wing propaganda, I found 12 Strong - 18' far more entertaining and enjoyable to watch. And give me Jarhead - 05' any day, and that one barely had any action at all, yet as an overall film, one that I found ultimately absorbing and interesting. Scott Eastwood sounds just like his old man in inflection, was painfully stoic and more wooden than Pinocchio could ever be, and Caleb Landry Jones needs elocution lessons.
Nothing new to see here and it made me wish I was watching Platoon - 86' instead. Should have called it The Outhouse.
