Any still exist around where you live? The last one closed here about 3 years ago. Explained to my kid such places and he was baffled at the concept, especially when renting a video game. The last one, that I can remember, still were alive and "kicking". Burned down years ago, while the closest to where I live ended its business back in spring of 2004. I still miss a few of these nostalgic places, probably most the feeling of never knowing what to find or end up with, but also just to browse around, especially in the horror and action, but also be sure of taking a sneak peak into the adult section as well. I remember when some started to shift towards DVDs and video game, but by then, it took only a few years (or less) before most of them were out of business. There also used to be a few rental DVD/video game machines, outside different subway stations, shopping malls and so on, but where one only could get a hold of the disc inside a plastic sleeve, no cover, but I guess the variety in those machines was not all that much, and did not last very long until they were removed. Probably a lot to do with people damaging them or never returning the films or games they rented. Next up, I think it was that you could rent movies (DVDs in plastic sleeves) over the internet, but that also did not last for very long, or so I remembered it. Still, there are probably a few places left, most likely outside the bigger cities, where one could rent a few films through some gas station or junk-food stores, which seemed to always favorize (with huge posters all over) the usual euro-DTV trash (back in 2001-06) of that of Seagal, Van Damme, Lundgren, Lambert, Snipes, Kilmer, Cage, Gooding Jr. and so on.
