I do know, however, that guys - gay and straight alike - adore Elvira. And I think one big reason is because Elvira is sexual in a way that is actually very masculine. Most women are coy and use their feminine wiles to make a man become interested. Not so with Elvira! She's as direct as they come! She loves men, she loves sex and she makes no boners about it! I also think that Cassandra Peterson understands a guy's sense of humor (i.e., silliness) very well. Maybe she even relates to men better than she does to women.
And I also don't believe I've ever seen a woman checking out a guy's (big) butt the way Elvira checks out Bob's. I never really thought that women were all that attracted to guys' butts. And CERTAINLY not guys with big butts! Bob was a stud! So, that part absolutely seemed gay!
I also like "To Wong Foo: Thanks for everything, Julie Newmar" very, very much. It is so good-natured and sweet, with likable, warm characters in it and is often very funny.
What a breath of fresh air Elvira was for that little puritan town. I just love that picnic scene, which is ribald, without being offensive or crude. Nice little spice of horror as well, regarding the humourless evil Uncle Vinnie who is really his own worst enemy. If only he would lighten up.
If I was a chick, I would want to be like Elvira and I think most guys, gay or straight, would feel the same way as well.
To Wong Foo is an absolute delight. Swayze made a terrific and even beautiful woman, Snipes was just hilarious and ott and Leguizamo gave a spot on, perfect timing comic performance, that apparently frustrated Swayze to no end with all his ad-libbing, yet something that came off as natural and in the moment in the finished product. The scene where Noxeema confronts the rednecks and gets one of the dudes to apologize to the ladies, and when Chi Chi and Vida are having their standoff of verbal insults with each other are classics. I often have to replay these scenes. As mentioned before, for my money, it runs rings around Priscilla.
