I've had a kidney stone twice in my life. How do they not remove it immediately? It was the most pain I've ever been in in my life. I would have committed suicide in eight days if I hadn't had it removed, never mind eight months!

It only becomes painful when it gets stuck in your Ureta which happened to me a year and a bit ago. Totally jammed up so your kidney can't empty and expands and puts pressure on the nerves surrounding it which causes the pain, it also starts to poison you. I had an emergency stent fitted which made me incontinent as well for a few months before the stone could be lasered.
If it's fixed or even moving it can just float around your kidney doing little harm apart from a bit of scarring for years, it's just if it gets lodged in the Ureta which is between kidney and bladder that complications arise. This one may even be to big to fit in the Ureta as it's 1.5 cm which is bloody massive for these things.
You're right about the pain though I had a few weeks or hell before I ended up in accident a d emergency last time. Couldn't sit stand or lie down only slept when I practically passed out.
