I had a similar reaction to both "Titanic", "Dancer in the Dark" and "The Matrix". These movies pissed me off so much I got angry. I haven't seen "Mother", but I can understand your antipathy towards Aronofsky. I did not care for "Requiem for a Dream" a bit. Ellen Burstyn gave a good performance and that was it for me. Titanic was fun for me to watch as a technical achievement, it is now fun to watch for how waterlogged it is.
Dancer In The Dark impacts upon me deeply, but I can understand why many won't connect with it.
The Matrix has some interesting ideas and themes, just the presentation I find frustrating. Its not the film that people make it out to be.
I like Requiem For A Dream, always have and I usually don't like this sort of film. Burstyn should have won the Oscar over Roberts.
There have been many films that have made me annoyed at them for just being bad, but when I watched Gorillas In The Mist - 88' last night, the anger I felt towards the poachers, yet deep empathy at the same time, really got to me. I had forgotten how good this film was and Sigourney Weaver doesn't set a foot wrong here.
