Why are religious people so messed up?

The height of species narcissism is more the idea that we are made specially, and in the image of God, or that we are a chosen people, or that we are treated with undue care and attention by the Cause of all reality and that if humans play their cards right they will end up next to Him singing His praises for ever.




To say that God cannot be fathomed, or known, about is actually the agnostic position. But it would be hard to find anyone who would say that because God cannot be known it therefore must not exist. It is more common to say that if this is true then anything we assert about the deity is meaningless.
