I saw the first 2 seasons like a couple of years ago
Pretty much binged 3-8 over the last 4 days or so
Was free on my cable package - but I woke up this morning to 2 episodes left - 5&6 - they took the 'Free' off and you have to pay for a subscription.
Didn't watch em in time I guess - but I read up this morning and watched Youtube clips on what happened the final 2 episodes
It was a really good show - not happy with how they wrote some characters though in the final couple of years
I'm an old school wrestling fan - I'm a sucker for the good guy turning evil and vice versa; however wasn't happy with some of the character arcs
Jep mentioned about the show went too far into the supernatural which I tend to agree with a bit - maybe the should have ended it with the White Walker battle - or maybe just not even bothered with that whole storyline at all
Rewatching Twin Peaks for the zillionth time right now - it's a shame - because the same happend to that show - just went to far off into the supernatural
I didn't like the fact that Sensa turned out the way she did - nor that Bran (or however you spell it) ended up King.
Like I said, suff like this isn't really my cup of hot cocoa. But the missus started watching from Day One and needled me until I started watching. I was lukewarm until Ned lost his head. Then I was hooked.
I agree about the While Walkers. The books barely mention them. Not even the White Walkers but "The Others". And no Night King. The books are much more into the Westeros politics, but I guess the show needed monsters. I think The Others would have come into play a lot more in the last two books but I doubt we will ever know.
I didn't mind the way Sansa turned out. She got shit on too much and it turned her. I didn't like King Bran either. Too cute. They just couldn't do the obvious and make Aegon Targaryen/Jon Snow king. I really didn't like the way Tyrion came out in the last season. He goes from being very smart and competent to being a bumbling incompetent. He get outfoxed again and again by that goof Euron Grayjoy.
Maybe the pluses outweigh the minuses. This is my first rewatch since the show ended. There were so many great things. The wildings attacking the Wall. Blackwater Bay. Arthur Dayne v. Ned Stark et al at the Tower of Joy. The Red Wedding.
I think they changed it to White Walkers from 'The Others' due to the popularity of LOST. Too similar. Great name change, by the way. The final two seasons were a mess, and they didn't nail every character by my estimation, but there were some the show did better than the books. Tywin and Cersei are much more compelling on the show, for example.
Even with the White Walkers and the increased use of the dragons, I never felt like the 'fantasy' elements overtook the political intrigue that made the story so compelling. This conversation makes me want to rewatch the series, but the end is going to aggravate me even more the second time around, I think. Kind of the same reason I haven't revisited the books, knowing that thus far it all leads nowhere and it will probably stay that way forever.
