The Catholic Church teaches explicitly that there is no sin, no matter how serious, that cannot be forgiven Although the caveat is the sinner has to be genuinely repentant. Doesn't sound like this guy is. At some point he could be. I think a lot of people just assume that the really bad people never ever feel bad and repent. But clearly the Christian doctrine teaches both that any sin, no matter how innocuous it seems to us humans, is just as bad as the most heinous vile sin as far as God is concerned, and that any and all can be redeemed. I understand there are stories of guards who tormented people in German concentration camps are thought to have "genuinely repented" and were presumed to have been redeemed.
