80-71 80. Will Clark 79. Urban Shocker 78. Jorge Posada 77. Pete Browning (OF 1882-94, the original "Louisville Slugger") 76. Bobby Bonds 75. Tim Hudson (!) 74. Lefty O'Doul 73. Jimmy Wynn (for you, TC!) 72. John Olerud 71. Buddy Bell Buddy Bell was NOT better than Will the Thrill, not in any lifetime. And I don't know who this Urban Shocker is, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't better than Will the Thrill either, in spite of his AWESOME name. Shocker (not that idiotic horror film) won 187 games. BUT, 126 of those wins came when he pitched for the St. Louis Browns! That's a feat. And, like Dizzy Dean, Herb Score, Smoky Joe Wood, he had a short career. 18-6 for the 1927 Yankees, died from a bum heart a year later. I read a pretty good book about him
Posnarski's argument for Buddy Bell is his defense. Bell was one of the best defensive 3b not named Robinson or Nettles. He was tho 3b what Aparicio was to SS and Mazeroski was to 2b. But I agree about Will da Thrill.
