I only drink it now with pizza or other Italian red sauce dishes. And then it's Mexican Coke with cane sugar. It's so much better, I don't mind the price for a few bottles a month.
My dad managed a burger joint when my brother and I were kids. There were fountain sodas, not a soda fountain, but the syrup and carbonation were mixed right there, like today's self-serve sodas at fast food places.
He often took us to work with him on weekend mornings when he went in early to start the charcoal for the burgers and dogs.
Between the soft serve ice cream and the soda syrups, we made the most outrageous ice cream sodas and sundaes we could imagine. Makes my gut hurt now to remember.
