It’s not for me to say if Indian-based nicknames are offensive or not as I’m not of Native American descent. But it doesn’t seem 100% ok either. Outside of Notre Dame and the Montreal Canadiens, is there another big 4 team named after a group of people like that? Thats how I feel too. I dont understand it as offensive but I may just be ignorant to it. If that ethnicity finds it offensive than that is enough for me to think it should be changed. I don't view Chiefs or Braves offensive either but if those names are viewed as offensive by all means change them. As a Braves fan I won't complain if they change it unless its to something stupid. In terms of Notre Dame, I'm Irish and I love the Fighting Irish name. |
