Not trying to nitpick here but Philly is like a nickname for Philadelphia. What you’re suggesting is just saying Cleveland twice. I’m not saying that “Phillies” is as great a name as, say, the Tigers or Pirates, but it’s better than Texans and Packers and Browns. I'd say it's worse than Texans. Philly is a nickname for Philadelphia so it is indeed like saying it twice, but making it a plural for no good reason at all. At least Texans refers to the people from Texas.
