I'm a sucker for a good ghost story, and I thought Bag Of Bones nailed that subgenre, in addition to The Shining. I seen the movie before I read The Shining. So it took me a while to warm to the novel. I still love the movie but the book is much better. Nice to see why Jack loses his mind, not just a three second shot of Nicholson staring into space. The Grady Girls were a nice touch. Kubrick souldn't film one of the novel's big scare scenes, the Topiary animals, so he needed another. Those creepy little snots. One touch the book did that was a huge improvement, the axe over the roque mallet. That shiny axe was what sold me on the original trailer
One of my favorite films, but the topiary animals were the scariest part of the book for me!
