True.
For me, it's partially a matter of out-of-sight-out-of-mind. I rarely use celery, and don't buy it often. But, it's only sold in whole "heads," while most recipes call for a stalk, or two. So, it goes into the crisper, and is often discarded in liquid form.
I keep onions in a counter-top produce basket, until some of it is cut up. A good plastic wrap (I like Costco's), will hold in aroma. So, I keep the left-over onion on the 'fridge shelf, where I can see it, to keep track of what I have on hand.
"Crisper drawers," are more like hiding places.
