I learned the hard way about carrots and apples ... lost an entire season's crop of carrots :'( Now I use the BIG fridge for general veggies and the apples live in the 1/2 fridge in the basement. The carrots froze there and I don't trust the temp ... the apples aren't for all winter storage and seem more forgiving tempwise. I discovered that keeping my apples (temporarily) out on the patio (on the BBQ grill) wasn't the best idea - after Mr. Squirrel swiped one and ate half of another. Celery will keep longer if you wrap it tightly with aluminum foil - or better yet, keep it submerged in water.
