what on earth does that even mean? against the grain? NICRa (northern ireland civil rights association) had nothing to do with the conflict. People didnt blow up british soldiers and go on hunger strike because of civil rights. also discrimination against catholics happened because they were nationalists not because they were catholic. Discrimination would have happened without religion. I was member of the Irish Republican Socialist Party, which was/is the political wing of the INLa (Irish National Liberation army) which was engaged in armed struggle at the time and civil rights had nothing to do with the party's or my beliefs.
