The MCU as a whole is pretty lax about letting its heroes kill bad guys, but perhaps understandably so, people don’t really mind much when Iron Man and Captain America do it, since they traditionally haven’t been defined by the “heroes don’t kill” rule that comic books often follow. Plus, Captain America is a soldier anyway, so it’s unrealistic for him not to kill. With that said, one Marvel hero who is defined by his aversion to killing is Spider-Man.
Spider-Man in the comics has a pretty strict code against killing bad guys, to the point where he couldn’t even bring himself to kill the Green Goblin after he killed Peter’s girlfriend, and then taunted him over it. With that said, Spider-Man technically kills Ebony Maw in IW. Sure, he doesn’t do it directly, but he’s the one who comes up with the plan of sucking Ebony Maw into space, and he doesn’t seem the least bit choked up about it. In fact, he even humorously compares it to “this really old movie Aliens.”
Should this moment be more controversial than it is?
