God belief therefore has the powerful combination of meaning a lot to the believer and having few negative consequences if it turns out to be false. ————- Pascal’s wager.  Pascal's Wager might actually be the worst argument for God. It presents a false dichotomy (your option is to either believe in God or not) when it actually you have an endless plethora of Gods to choose from (God of the Bible, Hindu Gods, deist god, Thor). Most people who use this argument coincindently believe in the God they happened to be raised with rather than any real critical analysis. True, though Pascal argued that investigating various religions would leave one in no doubt that Christianity is superior to other conceptions of God. Though he would say that wouldn't he |
