I prefer them less burnt, but they're yummy. I'd try it. I know a lot about Chinese food and I have never heard of that one. I'd been told about Changsha Stinky Tofu as a must-try by several people, so I went there to check it out … but long before I got there, I realised that going to Changsha to try this famous dish was like going to Kentucky because you've heard Kentucky Fried Chicken is great.
The verdict: you've gotta do everything once, but I don't miss it. Unlike the youcha for breakfast in Guangxi - fresh tea leaves, chilli, salt, fried up in camellia oil then stewed into a broth and poured over spring onions, peanuts and puffed rice … is there a better way to start the day than with a savoury version of coco-pops with the caffeine content of three espressos?
