The show lost it's focal point once Ragnar died and has gone downhill since then. I gave the later series a try but lost interest and though I watch here and there, just to see what is going on, I haven't found anything interesting enough to draw me back in. Bjorn just didn't have the charisma of his father, or the actor playing him. He was unfaithful all the time despite him knowing how much his father's unfaithfulness hurt his mother. I do like Harold and I kind of like Ivar- maybe just because the rest of them are forgettable, except for Gunnhild. I agree with most of what you said (except about liking Harald and Ivar - I'm not a fan of either and want to see both dead before the series is over). I especially agree about the majority of the characters who are left being forgettable except for Gunnhild - she's awesome.
