It would be one thing if it the other person was fine with this and it was a thing they do. What the article implies is that he texts these things and the other person isn't okay with it. We don't have enough information about the situation, though I can imagine a scenario in which the other person never explicitly said they weren't okay with this, were already aware of his kink and are still in a relationship with him then that would be different. Texting someone that you want to eat them and drink their blood is a direct threat depending on the context.
