Cloverfield to get a straight sequel after 13 years

I've liked all the movies so far, but I don't know how far they can go with this concept. Like... What's the goal? Where's the story headed? J.J. does want an actual continuation, but to what end? Will there be proper closure? I fear that this will be like the SAW movies: Constant build-up with no real payoff, in order to keep the franchise going.
